AB 218 provides for a three-year “look-back window” that does away with the statutes of limitations that have prevented some alleged abuse victims from going to court to seek damages. This new law will therefore allow others who weren’t able to sue in the past to file their claims. After this Rhre-year window, child sexual abuse survivors will still be permitted to sue their abuser or institutions until age 55.
Hundreds of priests within the 12 Roman Catholic Diocese in California and have been the subject of allegations of childhood sexual abuse, although many of the allegations were not investigated because of California’s outdated statute of limitations for abuse survivors.
